I’ve just come back from Stitch & Bitch. It was a bit of a last minute meeting so I didn’t post the meeting on the website. We had a good time though and met three new members – Claire, Maureen and Eluned. They’d found out about us via the S&B books which is great. I think that the majority of our members have found the group via the books.
We also met the new manager of A Shot in the Dark, the cafe where we meet. We usually find it quite difficult to get a table in the cafe because it’s so busy, but he’s said that if we ring and tell him the meeting date he’ll reserve seating for us in the comfy chairs! Excellent! While he was talking with us I showed him the article in Stitch and Bitch Nation which, unintentionally, features a huge plug for the cafe. He was very pleased. He’d said that one of the staff had mentioned it to him but he’d thought they were joking!
Just after Xmas I heard about Podcasting. Podcasts are basically diy radio shows in mp3 that anyone can make and distribute via the internet. People can then download them free of charge onto mp3 players or computers and listen to them whenever they like. So, I’ve decided to make a knitting podcast. It’ll be called Knit Cast and will consist of interviews and "out and about" reports about knitting – yarn companies, knitting groups, bloggers, whatever I can drum up! I’m very excited about this because I rarely get to use my radio skills when it comes to knitting. I’ve organised a few knitting related interviews for my radio station, but having your own programme with your own editorial control is very different.
I don’t know if the show will be a weekly thing or monthly, it depends how much free time I have. I hope to interview people via netmeeting – ie phone interviews via the internet – and record them into my PC. And, depending on how mobile I can be, I’ll be able to record interviews on mini disc and then edit them on my pc into a programme.
If you’re interested in being interviewed or if you have an idea for a feature drop me a line at
knitcastATscifiville.com – remember to replace the "AT" with the @ symbol. I can’t gurantee that I’ll be able to follow up every idea but I’ll do my best. I will be creating a special page for the show on Scifiville and will post the address when it’s ready.
Your podcast sounds like an outstanding idea! Perhaps you can throw in some candy podcasts? Surely none of the knitters will notice? Oh dear, I’m making this about me again.
Oh oH!! The podcast sounds really exciting!! I’d love to help, or do something!!
I love the idea of podcasts too! Count me in to help in any way I can!
How do you record them? We’re going to help with the Community Radio (thornbury) project, but it’d be cool to do it myself, too.
Great idea!
Neat idea. Hope it works out. I’d like to listen to it.
